Ranked top in Japan for both the number of factory locations of foreign firms and the size of cumulative location area in Shizuoka prefecture in 2008.　

According to the factory location trend survey for the year 2008 (Jan. to Dec.) that was released (as a quick report) from the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry on March 31, 2009, Shizuoka prefecture was ranked at the first place in Japan for the number of firms which advanced to the prefecture and the cumulative area which such firms secured for their business activities.
This increase is ascribed to the development of industrial complexes in the area around Mt. Fuji and the southern area in the prefecture, and such ranking for the both is the first time for the prefecture.
